Ever feel off your game? Or like you have no motivation?
Congratulations that means you’re normal and chances are you are just in a slump. It happens to everyone whether it be with the gym, at work, or in your personal life. Don’t worry though it’s only temporary and there are lots of things you can do to get through this low period a little faster.
First off..
DON’T STRESS ABOUT IT!
It doesn’t matter who you are NO ONE can be 100 % all the time. We have highs and lows and that is totally normal so don’t beat yourself up about it because you will overcome this slump faster if you stay positive. It will take a time and patients, so just keep pushing.
TAKE A STEP BACK!
There is nothing wrong with taking a personal day or vacation to figure your stuff out! If you need space or time to think about things then take it! An extra day off or a trip somewhere can really help you reset and refresh yourself, which brings me to my next tip;
SHAKE IT UP!
One of the best ways I get over a slump is by changing up my routine. Change is a great way to reignite the fire once it’s started to dwindle. You can do this by trying a new class, making a few small changes in your routine, meeting some new people, or trying a new hobby altogether.
STEP UP ON THE SELF CARE!
Focus on YOU for a while! Self-care can mean a lot of different things so whatever it means to you ramp it up. I like to go for massages, do facials, take a night to myself to eat some of my favourite food and watch my favorite shows!
JOURNAL!
Daily journals are amazing for keeping your motivation going! Reflection is a key part in moving forward so reflect on what’s good and working for you but also what isn’t! Both will help you progress. Using those reflections you can set goals!
SET GOALS!
Working towards something can really help you move forward which is where setting a goal can be helpful. I am a strong believer in setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, attainable, realistic, Time) goals. When you're setting a goal it is important to put a lot of thought into it. Make sure your goal is specific and something that allows you to see your progress. Every time you see yourself getting closer to your goal it will give you a burst of motivation!
GET CHEESY WITH THE INSPIRATIONAL THINGS!
I like to read about people who I find inspiring. It helps bring back my motivation and remind me that we are capable of doing a lot! I’m also a huge sucker for cheesy quotes, they are a big motivator for me when I am feeling down. I like to set a quote on the background of my phone as a constant little pick me up.
TAKE A BREAK FROM SOCIAL MEDIA!
My final tip is to get off social media. Social media can be a great tool but also a not so great one. Sometimes when you are feeling down about yourself seeing all these people on social media can be frustrating at times but it’s important to remember that 90% of the time you aren’t seeing the full picture. People don’t usually post the bad things, just the good so you aren’t getting a full picture! That’s why sometimes it best to just get away from it refocus your energy!
You can also do a social media cleanse. That simply means any accounts or people that you feel like constantly bring you down when you see their posts just delete! It’s nothing personal, you can still like the person but that doesn’t mean you need to be affected by their posts everything you open up your phone!
Next time you’re in a slump, remember these tips! Breath, accept it then move forward.
